Rafael dos Anjos Newly minted UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos ’ performance against Anthony Pettis was shocking to behold, but it might be all the more impressive considering an obstacle he overcame to make it to the fight. Dos Anjos (24-7 MMA, 12-5 UFC), according to UFC President Dana White, tore his medial collateral ligament (MCL) two weeks prior to his title-winning headliner against champ Pettis (18-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) on Saturday at UFC 185. White, speaking to MMAjunkie at the post-event news conference at Dallas’ American Airlines Center, joked: “Just my luck, guy who wins the title is hurt.” Pettis, of course, emerged from a title winning performance in August 2013 with an injured knee that kept him sidelined for more than a year. Dos Anjos’ injury, however, might not be as severe.
