Mir (18-11 MMA, 16-11 UFC) spoiled the UFC debut of Lesnar (5-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) at UFC 81 in February 2008, surviving an early onslaught to secure a submission by kneebar at the 1:30 mark of Round 1. Lesnar followed up the loss with a pair of wins, taking a unanimous decision over Heath Herring and stopping Randy Couture to capture the heavyweight title. His first defense was the big money rematch against former-champ Mir.
