Clay Collard did not get the end to 2021 that he was looking for on the combat sports front. Collard, a UFC veteran who made it to the playoffs in the most recent PFL lightweight season, dipped back over into the world of boxing on Saturday, but things did not go according to plan. After winning six consecutive boxing matches in 2020, Collard has now dropped four straight when competing in the sweet science. Saturday’s setback was the worst of the bunch because Collard was stopped inside the first round by top Cuban prospect Yoelvis Gomez (5-0 boxing) at PBC Christmas Fight Night, which took place at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Collard had minimal answers for Gomez’s power, and once he got rattled with a clean shot was unable to regain his wits and last deeper into the fight
