When Nate Diaz asked for the UFC 196 headliner to take place at 165 pounds, McGregor – the lighter man – told him to go further up the scale. McGregor (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) first made that claim at this past week’s pre-fight press conference, though Diaz (18-10 MMA, 13-8 UFC) later took issue with that assertion. However, the UFC boss is now backing up McGregor’s claim. White recently explained to SI.com how the world’s largest MMA promotion came to book Diaz in the UFC 196 contest, recalling how initial options such as Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar, Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov all fell through, leading the team to Diaz. “So then we call Nate Diaz,” White explained
