The latest fight to be added to ONE: Warrior’s Quest at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 22 sees top local prospect Benedict Ang making his professional debut against Pakistan’s Waqar Umar in the featherweight division. Ang, who recently turned 19, has an outstanding amateur record of 6-0 and fights out of the renowned Evolve MMA camp. ONE Championship is headquartered in Singapore and its shows there regularly attract crowds of 10,000, so it promises to be a baptism by fire for the teenager. Umar (3-2) will be looking for his first win for the promotion after back-to-back losses, but the featherweight, who is a protégée of Pakistani ONE Championship star Bashir Ahmed , will have an advantage in terms of professional experience. There has been a lot of interest in Ang’s progression since he was offered a spot on the Evolve MMA fight team in early 2014, becoming the youngest member of a group that also contains seasoned veterans like Shinya Aoki and Rafael Dos Anjos . He has worked his way through the ranks at Evolve MMA from being a regular student there to securing a place on the competition team and eventually becoming only the fourth Singaporean to ever join the fight team
