(This story first appeared at TheAdvertiser.com .) On Saturday night, Aaron Phillips fights for the second time under the UFC banner. Not bad for a guy who’s only been a professional fighter for a little more than two months. “I teach at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and I’m about to finish up my master’s degree, but I slowed things down with school to focus on this camp,” Phillips told USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie. “I’ve only been a professional mixed martial artist for the last nine weeks – no school or no other distractions or anything. That gets me very excited and very motivated.” Phillips is a 25-year-old bantamweight who has been competing in MMA at the professional level, usually part-time, since 2011.
