SAN JOSE – Jorge Masvidal (27-8 MMA, 4-1 UFC) survived an early knockdown to grind out a come-from-behind victory over Daron Cruickshank (15-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC), notching a unanimous decision victory (29-28, 29-28, 29-27) thanks to a grappling-heavy effort down the stretch. The lightweight bout was part of today’s UFC on FOX 12 preliminary card at San Jose’s SAP Center. It aired on FOX following select prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Cruickshank looked to be every bit the striking spark plug we’ve come to expect in round one. A solid right hand to the jaw sent Masvidal crashing to the canvas in the opening frame, but he didn’t stay there long. In round two Masvidal found his stride, getting the action to the mat and using his grappling expertise to keep Cruickshank on the defensive, struggling just to stay out of submissions.
