A new flyweight champion will be crowned on “Fight Island.” After Henry Cejudo relinquished his flyweight title, Deiveson Figueiredo and Joseph Benavidez competed for the vacant title in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 27. Figueiredo (18-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) stopped Benavidez (28-6 MMA, 15-4 UFC) in Round 2, but wasn’t crowned champion after missing weight by two-and-a-half pounds, meaning the title remained vacant. The pair will run things back in the headliner of the UFC’s July 18 event on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, where the promotion will make a second attempt at crowning a new 125-pound champion, Also featured on the poster is the co-main event bout between middleweights Jack Hermansson (20-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) and Kelvin Gastelum (15-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC).
