Demian Maia and Ryan LaFlare RIO DE JANEIRO – It wasn’t pretty down the stretch, but Demian Maia rediscovered his roots as a jiu-jitsu master and dominated Ryan LaFlare on the mat. Maia (20-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) overwhelmed LaFlare (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) for the majority of their five-round bout en route to a unanimous decision victory (48-46, 48-46, 48-46) that was marred only slightly by Maia’s fading cardio in the final round.
