Sean O’Connell Sean O’Connell thinks the light heavyweights of the UFC should’ve taken a few notes when champ Jon Jones fought Daniel Cormier. At least he did. Seeing what Cormier was able to do in close-quarters combat with Jones was illuminating, he said, even if the title challenger wasn’t able to win at the end of 25 minutes. “Even the best fighter in the world right now found himself vulnerable in those positions,” O’Connell (15-6 MMA, 0-2 UFC), 31, told MMAjunkie Radio. “Cormier had the most success when he was throwing those uppercuts in that dirty boxing scenario and short hooks on the break.” It’s nothing revolutionary that the shorter man needs to get inside on the longer one, but considering O’Connell’s next booking, it’s a useful refresher.
