BANGOR, Maine – It was a valiant effort from Zach Makovsky in the third round. It was also too little, too late, as Jussier Formiga used a superior grappling attack to build up an early lead on the scorecards, resulting in a unanimous decision victory for the Brazilian. The flyweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 47 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. It aired on FOX Sports 2 ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1. Formiga got off to a quick start against an opponent who’s no stranger to the ground game. After taking Makovsky’s back in the first frame, Formiga forced the former Bellator champ to concentrate his efforts on survival and defense for much of the first two rounds, leaving Makovsky in need of a finish by the time the third rolled around.
