CINCINNATI – Near the end of a patient, cautious first round, Johnny Eduardo (27-9 MMA, 2-1 UFC) looped a fadeaway counter right hand that sent Eddie Wineland (21-10-1 MMA, 3-4 UFC) staggering backward on unsteady legs. Eduardo knew an opening when he saw it, and so he charged in with a follow-up right hand that caught Wineland squarely on the jaw, sending him crashing to the canvas and forcing a halt to the bout at the 4:37 mark of Round 1. The bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 40 event at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It aired on FOX Sports 2 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of the main card on FOX Sports 1. It was a careful start to the first round from both men, with heavy favorite Wineland feinting his way in with hands held low and Eduardo loading up on counters that seemed to fall just short
