Recently deposed UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is dual champ Daniel Cormier ’s backup plan. Cormier (21-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) announced during Saturday’s UFC 227 pay-per-view broadcast that he will rematch Miocic (18-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) in the event Brock Lesnar (5-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) isn’t able to make their fight. Cormier, who plans to defend his light heavyweight belt in the fall, acknowledged that Miocic has a good case for an immediate rematch, as Miocic pointed out on social media after his loss at UFC 226. But the case wasn’t as good as Demetrious Johnson, who ceded his flyweight title to Henry Cejudo on Saturday after 11 title defenses
