Despite taking a WWE-level rake of the eyes from Li Jingliang in order to get out of a tight choke attempt, Jake Matthews stayed after it and got an upset for one of the biggest wins of his career. Matthews (12-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Jingliang (14-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) with a pair of 30-26 scores and a 29-28. The welterweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC 221 event at Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
