Well, actually there was one problem, according to Nurmagomedov. Only one opponent wanted to fight him, and that guy wasn’t champ Eddie Alvarez. So the UFC offered Nurmagomedov a sizable chunk of money to be a possible replacement opponent – or the promotion used him as leverage in Alvarez’s (28-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) negotiations with featherweight champ Conor McGregor (20-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC), depending on how you look at things. Most fighters would have jumped at the offer. But then again, Nurmagomedov (23-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) is not most fighters
