ATLANTA – Coming into UFC 201, many thought Rose Namajunas would punch her ticket to a fight with strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Karolina Kowalkiewicz had other ideas, however, taking a split decision over Namajunas to claim her own shot at the gold. The women’s strawweight bout was the co-main event of today’s UFC 201 event at Philips Arena in Atlanta. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FS2 and UFC Fight Pass. Namajunas (5-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) cracked with a good right hand almost halfway through Round 1, the first truly meaningful shot of the fight. After Namajunas fell following landing a solid leg kick, Kowalkiewicz (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) attempted to pounce but was unable to land anything meaningful.
