MONTREAL – From the way Chad Laprise was taking it to Bryan Barberena in the first round, it seemed like Barberena would be lucky to make it back to his corner in one piece. But make it back he did, and a game Barberena (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) battled back over the course of the next two rounds to make a fight out of it before ultimately losing a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) to the more technically still unbeaten Laprise (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC). The bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 186 event at Bell Centre in Montreal. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view. Laprise seemed to be on the verge of a first-round stoppage early on. Using an unpredictable mix of body and head kicks along with straight, sharp punches that had Barberena reeling, Laprise completely dominated the opening frame with little apparent effort.
