MEXICO CITY –  Fabricio Werdum seized the UFC interim heavyweight championship with a second-round knockout of short-notice replacement Mark Hunt , setting up a title unification bout with Cain Velasquez if the undisputed champ is able to recover by March. Hunt (10-9-1 MMA, 5-3-1 UFC) dropped Werdum (19-5-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) on two occasions with clubbing punches and looked to be well ahead early in the fight before Werdum caught him flush with a flying knee and knocked him out at the 2:27 mark of the second round. “This belt is for my daughters and my wife and my family and my team,” Werdum said afterward, speaking Spanish for the Mexican crowd and then translating himself into English. “He punched me very hard, but I’ve been waiting for this moment.” The interim heavyweight title bout was the main event of today’s UFC 180 event at Mexico City Arena and capped off a night of explosive finishes, with none of the pay-per-view fights going the distance
