Although he got off to a slow start, Liam McGeary eventually earned the most significant victory of his career when he submitted Tito Ortiz with an inverted triangle choke to defend the Bellator 205-pound title in Bellator 142’s headliner. Ortiz (18-12-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) scored an early takedown and managed to put McGeary (11-0 MMA, 8-0 BMMA) in a bad position so he could unleash his trademark ground-and-pound. The champion remained composed, however, and eventually locked on the submission and former the former UFC titleholder and Hall of Famer to tap out for the first time since 1997
