The need for a new main event for the Dec. 10 pay-per-view event at Air Canada Centre in Toronto resulted in Conor McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC), in the UFC’s words, “relinquishing” the featherweight title . In turn, Max Holloway (16-3 MMA 12-3 UFC) and Anthony Pettis (19-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC) will fight for the interim 145-pound belt in the new UFC 206 headliner while Jose Aldo (25-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC) was promoted from interim champ to undisputed titleholder.
