Let’s be honest. If ever there was a fighter primed to be on the receiving end of trash talk ahead of his next bout, it’s Ben Askren . The former Bellator and ONE champion arrived in the UFC and, depending on your view, either entertained you or wound you up with his matter-of-fact, relatively abuse-free comments on the welterweight division and his rival athletes within it. But after finding himself the victim of MMA’s equivalent of being posterized, courtesy of Jorge Masvidal’s flying knee at UFC 239, the door was left wide open for Askren’s next opponent to have some fun and roast the man who famously appropriated the “Boom, roasted!” catchphrase from “The Office.” But Demian Maia trash talks opponents about as often as he gets submitted in fights, and instead of goading Askren into a fight, Maia’s approach to chasing a fight with him was more akin to someone arranging a first-time coffee date. Answering fan questions during an impromptu Q&A session on Twitter, Maia said he thought his biggest grappling challenge in the UFC may still be ahead, and named Askren as the man in question
