Martial arts are embedded in the culture of Japan, so it comes all the more surprising that representation in the UFC is so low. Historically, representatives of the country have struggled to reach the top of the mountain. Sure, Kazushi Sakuraba won a UFC tournament in 1997. Caol Uno challenged for a UFC title twice, and Yushin Okami and Kyoji Horiguchi did once each. There has been talent, for sure.
