In 2011, Jon Jones won the light heavyweight title and defended it twice. He had captured the title in March of that year by stopping Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and defended it against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson six months later in September. In December, he was paired against former champion Lyoto Machida . The event took place at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Jones defeated Machida late in the second round via guillotine choke.
