Filed under: News , UFC , Videos In April 2010, UFC fans couldn’t have possibly realized they were watching two of the light heavyweight division’s future top contenders, but that’s exactly what happened when Phil Davis  met Alexander Gustafsson . For both athletes, it was their second octagon appearance. Both were still raw versions of the fighters that would soon go to be, but it was Davis who proved the better man that day, competing on the preliminary card at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi. Gustafsson (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) would go on to give current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones his biggest test to date, and the big Swede is anxiously awaiting his chance at a rematch. Meanwhile, Davis (12-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) returns to action Saturday night at UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro, where he faces Glover Teixeira at the pay-per-view event. In anticipation of that matchup, check out the video above to watch Davis and Gustafsson meet in the early stages of their UFC careers.
