Ryan Couture and Nick Gonzalez The weigh-ins for Friday’s Bellator card in Texas are in the books – with one fighter over the mark for even the weight class above him, let alone the one he was booked to fight in. Nick Gonzalez (18-12 MMA, 0-2 BMMA) came in at 172.75 pounds for his lightweight fight – that’s lightweight , not welterweight – against Ryan Couture (10-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), who was 155.5. Consequently, the Couture-Gonzalez fight has been scrapped from the Bellator 143 lineup, promotion officials told MMAjunkie. Couture will be paid his show money. There was no initial word on how quickly Couture would be rebooked for a new fight, or just what Gonzalez’s future with the promotion might be. A photo tweeted out by Bellator officials showed Couture with a look of perhaps disbelief at the weight discrepancy, and Gonzalez with his eyes closed.
