UBERLANDIA, Brazil – A second consecutive knockout loss put ex-UFC champ Mauricio Rua even further away from another chance to win back his belt, and the chance may be altogether gone. After falling to injury replacement Ovince Saint Preux (17-6 MMA, 5-1 UFC) in UFC Fight Night 56’s headliner, Rua (22-10 MMA, 6-8 UFC) stopped short of making any final decisions about his career, but said he would reflect on his setback. “Losing is always bad, and in this weight class, and in heavyweight, when a punch lands, you feel it,” Rua said at the event’s post-event press conference at Ginasio Municipal Tancredo Neves in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil. “But I’m going to get through this loss and talk to my team and think about the future.” “Shogun” added: “But defeats always suck.” The Brazilian ex-champ overcommitted on a right hand and was knocked to the canvas by Saint Preux’s response. A flurry of right hands ended the fight at the 0:34 mark of the first frame, later awarding Saint Preux a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus. Rua, meanwhile, dropped to 2-5 since losing the UFC belt to Jon Jones.
