Sean Santella ’s long-awaited UFC debut, which was scheduled to come on short notice, will apparently have to wait. Earlier this week, UFC officials announced Santella (15-5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) had stepped in for injured flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (24-2-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) and would fight Wilson Reis (20-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC) later this month at UFC 201. However, Santella today announced those plans have been scrapped because “they said I need more medicals done … (and) there’s just not enough time before UFC 201” (via Twitter ): I'm sad to announce my UFC debut has been cancelled. I hope @seanshelby sees that ill fight anyone at anytime. @ufc pic.twitter.com/2Ob1GVnXS9 — Shorty Rock (@Srock125) July 16, 2016 UFC officials haven’t made a formal announcement, and it’s not clear if Reis will remain on the card
