Liam McGeary Expect Bellator light-heavyweight champion Liam McGeary to make his next title defense in early 2016. After controlling the action early in the fight, Tito Ortiz (18-12-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) ultimately tapped out to an inverted triangle choke from McGeary (11-0 MMA, 8-0 BMMA) in Saturday’s Bellator 142 event. In the co-headliner, Phil Davis (15-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) followed up an opening-round submission victory over Emanuel Newton (25-9-1 MMA, 8-3 BMMA) to knock out replacement Francis Carmont (24-11 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), who filled in for injured Muhammed Lawal (16-4 MMA, 8-3 BMMA, to win the single-night tournament and claim his title. Following the MMA-kickboxing “Dynamite” event, which aired on Spike from San Jose’s SAP Center, Bellator President Scott Coker said the two 205-pounders will likely meet in early 2016. “I think that’s probably a fight we’ll promote sometime in the first quarter of next year, and I think it’s going to be a great matchup,” Coker said.
