Filed under: Bellator , News , Videos HOUSTON – UFC Hall of Famer Royce Gracie was unflappable despite a controversial ending in his trilogy fight with Ken Shamrock , first laughing off and then denying an illegal knee that brought an end to the Bellator 149 headliner. Gracie joked about an apparent knee to Shamrock’s groin at the post-fight presser, declaring, “I’m very happy – that was my first knockout,” at the Toyota Center that hosted Friday’s Spike-televised event in Houston. Then he curiously claimed a strike to Shamrock’s groin, missed by referee Jacob Montalvo, didn’t actually land in a sensitive spot – despite video evidence to the contrary. “We come from an era where there was no time limit, no weight division, no gloves, no rules, (and) groin shots were allowed – but it did not catch his groin,” Gracie said. The result may officially go down as a TKO in the Brazilian’s favor, but few are likely to be convinced it was anything more than a mishap that robbed fans of a satisfying conclusion.
