Good news for UFC heavyweight Antonio Silva : A long-planned surgery was apparently successful. The fighter, who recently suffered a knockout loss to resurgent Andrei Arlovski in Sept. 13’s UFC Fight Night 51 headliner, posted a post-surgery photo this morning. As “Bigfoot” wrote (via Instagram ): “my surgery was a success, i’ll be back soon.Thank you to everyone who sent me their positive thoughts and energy” As MMAjunkie reported prior to his fight, Silva suffers from acromegaly , a form of gigantism that occurs when the pituitary gland initially produces excess growth hormone and then eventually depletes production. According to the fighter’s manager, Alex Davis, it’s caused by a cyst on the pituitary gland
