Michael Johnson might not be fighting Nate Diaz or Khabib Nurmagomedov , but the lightweight’s not at all upset with the alternative he received from the UFC. Johnson called his upcoming opponent, former training partner Melvin Guillard , “more of a tricky and dangerous fight” than Nurmagomedov, who unsuccessfully lobbied on social media for an opponent after Diaz and Gilbert Melendez failed to materialize. “Khabib doesn’t have knockout power, and Melvin does,” Johnson (12-8 MMA, 6-4 UFC), who co-headlines UFC Fight Night 37 with Guillard (31-12-2 MMA, 12-8 UFC), told MMAjunkie Radio. “I would think (Melvin) wants it a little more. He’s trying to get back to where he was not too long ago, and now he’s got to go through me to get to that.” UFC Fight Night 37 takes place March 8 at London’s O2 Arena. The event streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
