Yves Edwards After 17 years, 66 professional fights, 42 victories, eight UFC stints and bouts with nearly every MMA organization of note, Yves Edwards has announced his retirement. The 38-year-old Bahamian fighter made the announcement on Sunday evening. Edwards (42-22-1 MMA, 10-10 UFC) wrote: “Fighting has been a part of my life ever since I was 17 and that makes this a hard pill to swallow but it’s time for me to end this chapter and move on to the next part of my life.” Edwards most recently fought this past month at UFC Fight Night 57, where the “Thugjitsu Master” suffered a first-round submission loss to Akbarh Arreola. That moved the fan favorite to 0-4 (with one no-contest, which originally was a loss) in his past five fights. Although Edwards didn’t announce any immediate plans after the defeat, an emotional Edwards embraced UFC matchmaker and longtime friend Joe Silva and seemed to suggest it might be his final octagon appearance. Edwards’ full statement (via Facebook ) included: During his career at lightweight and welterweight, Edwards, an American Top Team fighter whom fellow fighters often praised, fought for the UFC, PRIDE, WEC, Strikeforce, Bellator MMA, EliteXC, BodogFIGHT, KOTC, MFC, HDNet Fights and others.
