ELMONT, N.Y. – While the oddsmakers had Lauren Murphy as an underdog entering Saturday’s UFC event, Murphy knew she was going to get the job done. The former women’s flyweight title challenger was determined to get her hand raised at UFC on ABC 3 and show she wasn’t going to be a stepping stone for Miesha Tate. Tate, a former UFC and Strikeforce champion at bantamweight, was dropping to 125 pounds for the first time in her career. Her highly anticipated flyweight debut came with plenty of talk about a potential title fight against champion Valentina Shevchenko well before making her actual debut in the weight class. Murphy (16-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) enjoyed the underdog role, but never took it as a reality.
