Horiguchi suffered a record-setting fifth-round submission loss to UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC 186 in April in a fight where the No. 3 fighter in the NOS Energy Drink MMA pound-for-pound rankings largely dominated him from the start. The UFC’s 125-pound division is notoriously thin on legitimate title challengers, and the 24-year-old Horiguchi was pitted against Johnson after just four UFC appearances.
