DUBLIN – Joseph Duffy is hoping to get back in the octagon as soon as possible after he was forced out of UFC Fight Night 76’s main event due to injury. Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is understandably disappointed after UFC officials announced today that he was deemed medically unfit to compete against Dustin Poirier (18-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) due to a head injury sustained during his final days of training for Saturday’s fight card. “So sad to announce that I won’t be fighting on Saturday,” Duffy wrote on his official Instagram account . “After a strike to the head in training I had precautionary medical tests which resulted in me being deemed not fit to fight. Obviously I’m absolutely gutted, I really wanted that fight and felt sharp in training.” MMAjunkie learned from a person who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter that Duffy suffered a flash knockout in sparring at Montreal’s Tristar gym after being caught with a head kick. After several days of medical evaluation, the conclusion was made that Duffy would not be able to face Poirier in the lightweight headliner
