RIO DE JANEIRO – UFC bantamweight John Lineker remembers walking back to his corner after the first round, wondering how to make the man across from him fall down for good. Despite hammering Brian Kelleher (19-9 MMA, 3-2 UFC) with hook after hook, Lineker (31-8 MMA, 12-3 UFC) was heading to the second round. He wondered what was holding Kelleher upright. “I sure was surprised,” Lineker told MMAjunkie via an interpreter at following their pay-per-view main-card bout at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. “I threw everything I had at him, and he absorbed it all. “At the end of the first round, I said, ‘What now?’” As much punishment as Kelleher managed to withstand, Lineker’s persistence eventually paid the ultimate dividend.
