An exciting matchup that never came to fruition in 2018 has just become a hot topic again. Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz were once scheduled to meet at UFC 230, however, an injury prevented the fight from happening. Poirier suffered an injury just over a month away from the fight causing the bout to be scrapped. Since their scheduled fight, Diaz went on to defeat Anthony Pettis via unanimous decision at UFC 241, but has since dropped back-to-back fights against Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards. On the other hand, Poirier claimed the interim lightweight title by defeating Max Holloway, but lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title unification bout.
