Demain Maia RIO DE JANEIRO – At 37 Demian Maia knows he most likely has just a few years left in such a grueling sport, but before the jiu-jitsu ace hangs up his gloves and retires from MMA, he has one last goal left to reach. In Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 62 headliner, Maia (20-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) returned from a 10-month layoff and scored a hard-fought unanimous-decision victory over previously unbeaten welterweight Ryan LaFlare (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC). The bout, which aired on FOX Sports 1 from Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, marked his second straight win (check out the Maia vs. LaFlare video highlights ). Maia, who’s ranked No. 10 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA welterweight rankings , isn’t sure if a win over unranked LaFlare will improve his stock in the division.
