When Jay Wood was almost to his teen years, he moved with his family from Salem, Mass., to a town in Nebraska with a population of about 2,000. This might seem like it was a big change, and it was. But it was just one in a number of family moves during his youth that caused significant discomfort, some away from foreclosed or even nearly condemned homes.
