Daniel Cormier hopes to see the ‘”BMF” title get defended moving forward. With inaugural “BMF” champion Jorge Masvidal retiring, the UFC opted to pit former interim lightweight champs Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje against each other for the vacant belt in a five-round fight that headlines UFC 291 on July 29 at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City. Masvidal captured the “BMF” title with a doctor’s stoppage TKO win over Nate Diaz in 2019, but he never defended the belt. Now that the title is back, Cormier hopes it’s up for grabs more frequently.
