Mixed martial arts will become legal in New York on Sept. 1, but hurdles created by new legislation will keep a majority of fighters out of the cage — and may indirectly push them toward the underground fighting scene, according to seasoned sports administrators from several states. New York is the last state in the nation to legalize the contact-combat sport professionally.
