Covington (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC), who roomed with fellow wrestler Jones at Iowa Central Community College, earned a unanimous-decision victory over veteran welterweight Mike Pyle (26-11-1 MMA, 9-6 UFC) on the FOX Sports 1-televised prelims of Saturday’s event. Following his win, which took place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, Covington discussed Jones, who was pulled from UFC 187’s headliner and stripped of his light-heavyweight title after his arrest and alleged involvement in a hit-and-run accident in March. “I hope he learns from his mistakes,” Covington said.
