McGregor said he wanted one thing, the UFC execs said they wanted another. When they couldn’t agree, they went their separate ways. “Conor does whatever he wants,” Johnson (23-2-1 MMA, 11-1-1 UFC) joked at open workouts in support of his title defense against Henry Cejudo (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) at Saturday’s UFC 197. “If Conor wants to retire, Conor can retire.” And three days before the Johnson’s pay-per-view co-headliner at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, that’s the major story of the week, with McGregor bowing out of a 170-pound catchweight rematch with Nate Diaz at July’s UFC 200.
