Despite an obvious grappling disadvantage, Scott Clist never hesitated to engage Martin Svensson on the ground in today’s Cage Warriors 79 main event. He paid for that choice, succumbing to a second-round submission in the UFC Fight Pass-streamed lightweight headliner at Newport Centre in Newport, Wales. Although Svensson (15-6) was the first to engage in a grappling position with a first-round takedown, it was clear Clist (9-3) had no problem being there once he was taken to the ground. There were several scrambles, with Clist passing up opportunities to escape to the feet and being forced to fend off multiple submission attempts from Svensson in order to escape the round.
