Even though his father is one of the most famous competitors in the sport’s history, Ryan Couture didn’t always want to be an MMA fighter. “It took me a long time to come around to the idea of myself fighting,” Couture told MMAjunkie. “I was leaving athletics behind when I decided to go to Western Washington University and pursue my degree in math because they didn’t have a wrestling program. “I wasn’t thinking about pursuing sports at all. I just spent college keeping up on my schoolwork and my social life. I was getting fat, eating pizza and drinking beer.” With his father, Randy, being a former two-division UFC champion and a universally recognized name, it was hard for Couture to avoid a similar career path
