Filed under: Featured , News , UFC For a sport that is at its best when it is at its craziest, Saturday’s UFC 196 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas was like a gift from the MMA gods. After a fairly sleepy undercard that all but drained the life out of MGM Grand Garden Arena, the top two fights on the card delivered wild swings, incredible upsets, and the kind of moments that remind you why you stay up late to watch this stuff. It was about as much fun as you could have in a set of four-ounce gloves. That is, as long as you like your fun with a side of chaos. Thing is, it wasn’t supposed to happen like this. What was supposed to happen was that Holly Holm would retain her UFC women’s bantamweight title with a win over Miesha Tate , thus setting up a mega-money rematch with former champ Ronda Rousey , while Conor McGregor starched late replacement and occasional welterweight Nate Diaz , thus setting up a potential welterweight title shot later this summer
