Oliveira (12-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) was an absolute unknown on the international stage at the beginning of this year. But when the 27-year-old Brazilian lightweight in March stepped up on short notice against top prospect Gilbert Burns – and nearly pulled off the improbable upset – the world took notice. Oliveira then stepped up again on short notice two months later, agreeing to meet longtime veteran K.J. Noons in a welterweight contest, scoring an incredible first-round knockout.
