When Robert Whittaker lost his UFC middleweight championship to Israel Adesanya, Kelvin Gastelum had quite a bit to say. Gastelum mocked Whittaker’s second-round knockout loss to Adesanya at UFC 243, saying how he was disappointed, and that Gastelum would have dropped Whittaker like a sack of potatoes if they had fought. The two were meant to face off for the 185-pound title at UFC 234, before an emergency hernia surgery forced Whittaker out just hours before the fight. Gastelum ended up facing Adesanya two months later at UFC 236 for the interim title, but fell just short in a classic battle. Adesanya was then able to unify the middleweight title in a near-flawless performance over Whittaker, and Gastelum, who took Adesanya to the brink, couldn’t help but criticize Whittaker’s performance. And Whittaker is not the least bit surprised.
