When Bellator announced the inception of a new European Series predicated on U.K.-based teams hosting shows across the continent, the plan was always to foster and develop rising talent from the region to produce new stars that would eventually gravitate to the big shows Stateside. And at Bellator 227/Bellator Europe 4 in Dublin, we may just have seen the next generation of Irish stars getting ready to unleash their talents onto the world stage. Leading the charge is James Gallagher , whose upbeat persona – often in the face of hateful abuse online – was there for all to see as he danced joyously to the cage for his main event bout with last-minute replacement Roman Salazar. Gallagher’s 35-second victory didn’t tell us much we didn’t already know about him, but the reaction of the fans to “The Strabanimal” certainly did. Detractors can call him a Conor McGregor clone as much as they like
