LOS ANGELES — Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida could have sat back and waited on an opportunity to claim Bellator gold in one of two weight classes. Machida has won both of his fights since moving over from the UFC, most recently a second-round TKO of Chael Sonnen at Bellator 222. A meeting with either light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader or newly crowned middleweight titleholder Rafael Lovato Jr. would have made for a sellable fight for his promoter. But even now, at age 41, “The Dragon” doesn’t like staying inactive.
